These past 7 days, I’ve done my best to articulate how I’m feeling on my social media platforms. In the theme of honesty, writing these posts have been quite emotionally draining, but also an incredible wake up call to me. At this point, I think it would be selfish to keep quiet. My 7 day challenge doesn’t end here. This is just the beginning for me, and I’m welcoming each and everyone of you to join me in this conversation.
I don’t want people to go online and not feel safe or uncomfortable because they think no one else is experiencing what they are. I don’t want people to feel ashamed to go online and feel alone. Your answer to this may be “just go offline and ignore it.” I find that to be a naive answer. Technology and social media is so engrossed and assimilated into our lives, I’d find it difficult to completely disconnect and still be present in our society. Instead of saying disconnect and disengage with the negativity, I say: let’s create more positive experiences that are raw, genuine, and honest. Let’s remove the filter and see each other for who we are.
Instead of talking once a year, and only trying to end the stigma on that same day, let’s keep talking. Let’s get this conversation going! Let’s show those who are not strong enough that they are not struggling alone, and maybe we are suffering too. Let’s try to move past the fear to talk about our feelings without the fear of being judged, ridiculed, or bullied.
We all make this lovely world go round, each and everyday. So, thank you for letting me share my week with you.
And that’s how I’m feeling this week.
